The tradition of kolędowanie (caroling), sometimes known as „wassailing”, is typically celebrated in Poland between the Feast of St. Stephen and the Feast of the Epiphany, sometimes even longer. Children and young adults would gather and visit neighboring homes. They sing and dance, sometimes offering impromptu skits and performances for their gracious hosts. They extend well wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year. The hosts offer well wishes in return, as well as a delicious meal and monetary gifts.
